Galaxy Phone and Tablet Warranty Extended by 1 Year... Launch of 'Samsung Care Plus'


[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics is launching a subscription-based total care service that extends the warranty period by one year for devices such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and wireless earphones.


On the 14th, Samsung Electronics announced the launch of 'Samsung Care Plus,' a subscription service that offers device damage and loss insurance along with warranty extension benefits.


Samsung Care Plus is a monthly subscription service that combines Samsung Electronics' specialized services with existing smartphone insurance benefits. It provides coverage for damage and loss, warranty extension, and on-site repair services.


Samsung Care Plus extends the free warranty period by up to one additional year. Smartphones have a basic maximum warranty of up to three years. Tablets, Galaxy Buds, smartwatches, and laptops are covered for up to two years. Smartphones, tablets, and laptops also receive a one-time battery replacement service.


In case of damage, repairs can be made at Samsung Electronics service centers at a discounted cost. There is no need for complicated procedures such as issuing separate documents for insurance claims or repair fee billing. If a smartphone loss is reported, the device is automatically locked to prevent unauthorized use. There is no risk of resale as a used phone or exposure of personal information.


If it is difficult to visit a service center, customers can use the smartphone on-site repair service. Samsung Electronics service center staff will visit the desired location to perform repairs, and this service can be used up to three times.


Any Galaxy purchaser can subscribe for their desired period. Subscription is available for all models from flagship foldables to mid-range A series, including unlocked, carrier, and budget phone models. Laptop products are scheduled to be released within the year.


The monthly fee is 4,900 KRW for the Galaxy A series, 7,400 KRW for the S and Note series, and 13,500 KRW for the Fold series. The Galaxy Tab S series costs 5,300 KRW per month, Buds 1,300 KRW, and Watch 2,300 KRW.


Smartphones can be subscribed to within 30 days after the first call date. Tablets, wireless earphones, smartwatches, and laptops must be subscribed to within 30 days of purchase. Only products purchased domestically are eligible. Although the same service name operates in the US and UK, coverage periods and details differ. On-site repair benefits and loss coverage apply only in Korea, and Korea is the first to apply this service to tablets and wearable products.


Samsung Care Plus subscriptions are available through the Samsung Members app or Samsung Electronics website. Customers who pre-ordered the 'Galaxy Note20' can choose a one-year free usage voucher as a purchase benefit.
