[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) has decided to proceed with a large-scale rally in downtown Seoul on the 15th, despite the Seoul Metropolitan Government's administrative order banning assemblies.

On the 13th, the KCTU stated, "On the 75th anniversary of Liberation Day, we will faithfully carry out the role entrusted to us for the autonomy, peace, and unification of the Korean Peninsula," adding, "The August 15 Workers' Rally will proceed as planned."

The KCTU plans to hold a nationwide workers' rally at Anguk Station intersection in Seoul on Liberation Day, the 15th. Including the KCTU, 22 organizations have announced a rally expected to draw around 220,000 participants.

On the same day, the Seoul Metropolitan Government issued an administrative order banning the assemblies of these groups, citing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
