[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 13th that it will hold residents' general meetings in 11 towns and townships where autonomous associations are being piloted, starting with the Seongju-dong Residents' Autonomous Association in Seongsan-gu.
The residents' general meeting serves as a forum for public discussion where residents directly discover and decide on projects needed in the village to realize practical resident autonomy. The city plans to include the priorities selected at this residents' general meeting in next year's independent project budget and proceed accordingly.
On the day of the general meeting, Seongju-dong, which is the first to hold the residents' general meeting, as well as Ungnam-dong in Seongsan-gu and Naeseo-eup in Masanhwoe-gu, will conduct early voting for the convenience of residents and elderly people who cannot participate on the day of the meeting.
Ungdong 2-dong in Jinhae-gu is gaining residents' favorable responses through various attempts such as a preliminary village planning workshop to derive agenda items.
Seo Jeong-guk, Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, "Since the residents' general meeting to decide next year's autonomous plan is held under difficult conditions due to COVID-19, we will actively strive to ensure that the valuable and diverse opinions of residents are reflected in city administration."
