[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Park Jumin, a member of the Democratic Party and candidate for party leader, stated that the party’s approval rating being overtaken by the United Future Party is a "warning from the people," and pledged to increase channels for direct communication between the party and the public.

On the morning of the 13th, Park wrote on his Facebook, "Seeing the recent decline in approval ratings, I am deeply reflecting on the party’s innovation and future," adding, "This is clearly a warning from the people to our party."

Park said, "The party should have taken on the role of directly persuading the people, but the results were insufficient. I deeply feel responsible as well. I reflect on this and will change," and added, "We will increase opportunities and channels for the party to communicate directly with the people."

He emphasized, "The people will not allow a force that does not change itself to regain power," and "If we fail to lead the changes of the times, there will be no success for our party. Leadership suitable for the new era is needed. That is why I am running."

He also said, "We must accelerate prosecution reform and judicial reform. I will build a trustworthy Democratic Party," adding, "Not a Democratic Party that wins once, but a Democratic Party that keeps winning. I will reflect and work harder."

Meanwhile, according to a survey released by Realmeter on the same day, the Democratic Party’s approval rating dropped 1.7 percentage points from the previous week to 33.4%, while the United Future Party’s rose 1.9 percentage points to 36.5%. The gap between the two parties’ support was 3.1 percentage points, with the United Future Party leading within the margin of error (±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). This survey was conducted by TBS from the 10th to the 12th, targeting 1,507 adults nationwide.
