Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Replaces Policy Director After 6 Months... Difficult to Understand

Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Replaces Policy Director After 6 Months... Difficult to Understand Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced personnel appointments for key positions and education specialists effective September 1.

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education is facing criticism for showing an incomprehensible behavior by replacing the Policy Director, who oversees Jeonnam education policies, in just six months.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 13th, they confirmed and announced the regular personnel appointments for 10 major positions the day before, and abruptly appointed Jeong Jae-cheol, the Director of Muan Education Support Office, as the Policy Director of the headquarters, and Wi Kyung-jong, the Head of Secondary Education Division, as the Education Director.

Along with this, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education reassigned Lee Yong-deok, who was promoted as the first female Policy Director through extensive publicity in March, to the Director of Suncheon Education Support Office.

Regarding this, there are continuous criticisms around that the personnel change replacing Lee Yong-deok, who was promoted as the first female Policy Director when the Policy Bureau was newly established, in less than a year is an unreasonable personnel decision that no one can accept.

An official from the Provincial Office of Education explained, “Lee Yong-deok was mentally and physically exhausted from dealing with the crisis caused by COVID-19 for six months, and due to the health issues of her spouse, she wished to take care of her family, so she was appointed as the Director of Suncheon Education Support Office.”

However, there are criticisms that the position of Policy Director, which oversees important policies of Jeonnam education, being replaced easily in just six months simply because it was difficult, lacks persuasiveness.

An anonymous official from the Provincial Office of Education cautiously stated, “Since the Policy Bureau was newly established in March, there were some confusions so far,” and “It is presumed that this personnel appointment was made to stabilize the Policy Bureau.”
