[Exclusive] Over 200 Samsung Display Employees Reassigned to Electronics Semiconductor Division

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] A large number of personnel from Samsung Display will be transferred to Samsung Electronics Device Solutions (DS) division on the 16th. The scale of personnel is expected to be around 200 to 300 people, who will be deployed to the Pyeongtaek Campus, Samsung Electronics' semiconductor production complex.

According to industry sources on the 13th, Samsung Display individually notified employees by department earlier this month about the transfer to Samsung Electronics DS division.

The subjects include employees from all business sites such as Giheung, Asan, and Cheonan, covering large and small-medium sized business units, equipment staff, production staff, and headquarters personnel. Mainly employees from staff to assistant manager level, with some manager-level personnel included.

They have all completed interviews conducted by the DS division and finalized the transfer. It is known that employees who were transferred from Samsung Electronics to Display in 2014 were excluded from the list during the transfer process.

This transfer was made at the request of Samsung Electronics DS division. After the DS division requested manpower supply, Samsung Display selected suitable talents and sent the list.

The DS division conducted individual interviews only with employees who wished to transfer based on the list and selected the final personnel. Most of the confirmed personnel will be assigned to Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus and will undergo training courses for each business before being deployed on site.

Inside Samsung Display, this large-scale personnel transfer is expected to mark the start of 'trimming fat' through efficient manpower allocation ahead of the LCD business closure of the large business unit at the end of this year.

However, some expressed concerns that the temporary reduction in personnel due to the transfer might increase the workload burden on the remaining employees.

A Samsung Display official said, "It is difficult to disclose the exact number of personnel transferred, but this inter-company transfer is part of the existing work process," adding, "The movement is conducted only for employees who wish to transfer based on the demand between the two companies."
