"Let's Fight" Random Assault in Seoul Sinchon... Police Tracking Fleeing Man

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] On the same day that a 'random assault' targeting women occurred in Gangnam, Seoul, a similar crime was reported in Sinchon. The police are tracking an unidentified man who punched a stranger in broad daylight and fled.

The Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul announced on the 13th that they are pursuing a male suspect, Mr. A, on charges of assault.

According to the police, Mr. A is accused of approaching the victim, Mr. B, whom he had never met before, in front of a Starbucks in Sinchon, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, around 2 p.m. on the 8th, headbutting him in the face, throwing punches, and then fleeing. Mr. B, who was smoking after having a meal with an acquaintance at the time, reportedly avoided the area and called the police as Mr. A continued to follow him.

Mr. A provoked Mr. B by saying "Let's fight" and "Let's have a showdown," and even after the assault, he shouted and threw objects. After the incident, Mr. A fled toward the Sinchon underpass.

The police are investigating the case based on witness statements indicating that Mr. A appeared to be in his late 20s.

A police official explained, "We are tracking Mr. A's whereabouts based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence."
