Five Foreign Students Trapped on Hangang Jamsugyo Rescued Through Real-Time Monitoring at Seocho CCTV Integrated Control Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) 'Seocho CCTV Integrated Control Center' recently rescued five foreign students trapped on Jamsu Bridge amid flooding in the Han River Park area caused by heavy rain raising the Han River water level.
At around 10:03 PM on the 4th, a control officer was intensively monitoring CCTV footage of disaster-prone areas within Seocho-gu, including Banpo Bridge, Jamsu Bridge, Dongjak Bridge, Hannam Bridge, and Yangjaecheon, when they discovered five foreign students trapped on the north end (Yongsan) of Jamsu Bridge walking toward the south end (Banpo).
Monitoring the students struggling to find a way out, the center immediately notified Seocho Police Station and Bangbae Police Station in real time. Thanks to the CCTV monitoring, Seocho Police Station, the jurisdictional police, accurately tracked the students' movement routes and safely rescued them.
Seocho-gu and local police were able to safely rescue the trapped students through swift and organic cooperation.
This is not the first time the Seocho CCTV Integrated Control Center has engaged in citizen safety prevention and rescue activities. When missing persons such as children or dementia patients occur, the center identifies them through precise past video analysis and real-time monitoring, safely returning them to their families. In the first half of this year alone, it achieved 749 arrests of offenders related to theft and sexual harassment involving intoxicated individuals, and prevented 3,084 crimes including protection of intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
Moreover, the center is currently operating on an emergency duty system for COVID-19 confirmed case CCTV epidemiological investigations at the frontline. When confirmed cases occur, it completes analysis and investigation within 12 hours using private CCTV footage from places visited by confirmed patients and 3,361 CCTVs installed in Seocho-gu.
Over the past six months, it has conducted urgent epidemiological investigations at a total of 373 locations, contributing greatly to preventing community infection spread by promptly and accurately disclosing movement paths.
Due to these achievements, the Seocho CCTV Integrated Control Center ranked second in the 2020 first half Seoul Best Control Center selection hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Cho stated, “Through the Seocho CCTV Integrated Control Center, we will continue to protect the safety of Seocho residents with the vigilant eyes that never sleep 24 hours a day.”
