[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 54 on the 12th.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 54 from the previous day’s midnight to 14,714.
The daily new confirmed cases had fluctuated between 20 and 40 since the beginning of this month but surged to the 50s on this day. The number of new cases in the 50s was the highest in 17 days since the 26th of last month (58 cases).
Regarding the infection routes of the new confirmed cases, 35 were locally transmitted and 19 were imported from overseas. Among the local transmissions, 19 cases were in Gyeonggi, 13 in Seoul, and 3 in Busan.
Among the 19 imported cases, 8 were detected during quarantine. The rest tested positive while in self-isolation at their residences or temporary living facilities in Gwangju (6 cases), Seoul (2 cases), and Busan, Daejeon, and Chungnam (1 case each).
The largest number of imported cases came from Uzbekistan with 8 cases. Following that were the United States (3 cases), Indonesia, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan, and Senegal (1 case each).
The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation was 13,786, an increase of 57 from the previous day. The death toll remained at 305, unchanged from the previous day.
