[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 12th that sneakers made by Nike, Le Coq, and Puma demonstrated superior slip resistance compared to products from other companies.

The Consumer Agency released the results of functionality, durability, and safety evaluations of eight running shoe products.

The investigation covered Nike's 'Legend React 2', New Balance's 'M680LK6', Le Coq's 'Aerorun', Reebok's 'Liquifect 180 SPT AP', Skechers' 'MAX CUSHIONING PREMIER', Adidas' 'Equipment 10 EM', Asics' 'GT-2000 8', and Puma's 'SPEED SUTAMINA'.

All products met the standards regarding the presence of harmful substances and mandatory labeling requirements. Safety and labeling standards were also fulfilled by all products. They complied well with the regulations on harmful substances and labeling as stipulated by the 'Electrical Appliances and Household Goods Safety Control Act'.

However, performance varied among products in terms of sole pressure, knee fatigue, slip resistance, abrasion resistance, and adhesive strength.

Slip resistance was relatively superior in the three products from Nike, Le Coq, and Puma. They were less slippery on wet floors compared to other products.

Comfort in wearing was better in the two products from Nike and Skechers, with lower pressure transmitted to the soles.

Knee fatigue was lowest in the Adidas product, indicating less load on the knees during running.

The durability of the lining was below the Korea Consumer Agency's recommended quality standards for textile products in the two products from Reebok and Skechers, meaning they wear out more easily.

The outsole durability was excellent in five products from Nike, New Balance, Reebok, Adidas, and Asics. After 10,000 abrasion tests, the outsole did not wear out easily, preventing exposure of the midsole.

Nike's product showed the highest quality in adhesive strength, which tested how strong the bonded parts of the running shoes were.

Han Eunju, head of the Textile and Polymer Team at the Consumer Agency, stated, "The Consumer Agency will continue to provide safety and quality comparison information on sneaker products to support consumers' rational purchasing activities."
