According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters on the 12th, around 10:07 PM the previous night, about 10 liters of nitric acid stored in a tank leaked at a semiconductor equipment cleaning factory in Sindang-ri, Sandong-myeon, Gumi-si. At that time, the 15-ton tank contained about 3 tons of nitric acid.
It was reported that factory employees discovered nitric acid leaking from below the valve of the outdoor nitric acid tank during a shift change.
The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters deployed about 30 firefighters and pump trucks to dilute the leaked nitric acid near the drainage barrier with water for two hours, while transferring all remaining 3 tons of nitric acid in the outdoor tank to the waste nitric acid storage tank. No significant casualties occurred during this process.
A representative from the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters stated, "The nitric acid did not leak outside the factory," and added, "No harmful substances were detected in the air measurement results inside the factory."
