Improvement Activities for Housing Conditions of Elderly Living Alone by Private Organizations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Gunsan City, Jeonbuk, has partnered with private organizations to provide tailored welfare support, including improving the living environment for elderly people living alone who are facing difficulties.
On the 12th, the city announced that it carried out activities to improve the living environment, such as garbage collection and disinfection, for a single elderly household that had accumulated household waste due to hoarding disorder, in collaboration with four private organizations: Dream Church, Geumgang Senior Welfare Center, Jeonbuk Western Elder Protection Agency, and the Volunteer Center.
The targeted household had accumulated garbage and other waste for several years, causing repeated fire hazards and hygiene problems. Although they initially refused cleaning support, the participating organizations persuaded them to agree to cleaning. On the day, about 20 personnel were deployed to dispose of approximately 5 tons of waste.
Additionally, to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment, wallpaper and flooring were replaced, and hospital treatment and counseling were provided concurrently. Follow-up management will be strengthened to prevent future waste accumulation.
Public-private cooperative integrated case management is a management system where public officials and private organizations work together to address and solve the complex problems faced by residents. It provides various tailored services to help beneficiaries live as healthy members of society.
Kim Jang-won, Director of Welfare Policy, said, “We will continue to identify and assist households in need by collaborating with private organizations and deliver a message of hope to low-income families.”
