[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] As the courier industry designates the 14th as a 'No Courier Day,' convenience store CU is operating its courier service normally to minimize customer inconvenience.
On the 12th, CU announced that it will operate its 'CU Kkiri' courier service normally using its own logistics network to support courier workers' rest and recharge on the 14th and to enhance citizens' convenience.
Four courier companies?CJ Logistics, Hanjin, Lotte, and Logen?will suspend operations for up to three days from the 14th to the 16th to allow couriers, who have been fatigued by excessive delivery volumes, to rest. The Korea Post Office's parcel delivery agents will also participate.
The 'CU Kkiri' courier service is possible to operate normally because it delivers parcels between stores through CU's own logistics company, BGF Logistics, following the process of 'receiving store → regional logistics center → delivery store.'
Since CU's logistics network is used, parcel collection is possible from Monday to Saturday, including holidays, and the delivery period takes a minimum of 2 days within the same region, averaging 3 to 4 days.
Because this service can collect and deliver parcels normally on the 14th and 15th, when other courier companies are closed except Sundays, and considering that regular courier services resume on the 17th, it fills the courier service gap during this period and even allows parcels to be sent and received faster.
The 'CU Kkiri' courier service handles only small parcels under 5 kg, with the lowest domestic rates of 1,600 KRW for parcels under 1 kg and 2,400 KRW for parcels over 1 kg up to 5 kg.
Additionally, for CU's regular courier service, although collection and delivery do not occur during courier company holidays, store reception is available 24 hours a day, and CU Home Courier, which collects parcels by visiting customers, is available until the 14th.
Meanwhile, since the launch of CU Kkiri courier service in March, the number of uses last month increased more than fivefold, and CU's total courier usage in the second quarter of this year also rose significantly by 25.8% compared to the previous year. The number of new members for CU's independent courier service, CU Post, also increased by 14.5% year-on-year.
