1300 IoT Sensors Installed in Priority Parking Lots for Residents in Gangnam-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will attach Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to 1,300 resident-priority parking spaces by next month as part of the 'Smart Shared Parking Service' introduced in the Ontact era.

The Smart Shared Parking Service shares vacant resident-priority parking spaces through the applications 'The Gangnam' and 'Parking Friends.' When the assigned user registers the time they vacate the parking space on the app, other users can prepay and use the available space by the hour.

The district selected Cheongdam, Sinsa, and Samseong-dong as the first target areas and plans to start by installing IoT sensors on 500 parking spaces in Cheongdam-dong, expanding to a total of 1,300 resident-priority parking spaces in the area by next month.

Additionally, there are plans to install sensors on 3,500 more spaces by July next year.

The parking fee is 900 KRW per 30 minutes, and residents who share their parking spaces will receive incentives such as 50% of the usage fee and additional points for resident-priority parking space allocation.

Applicants can apply through the Gangnam-gu Urban Management Corporation or Parking Friends.

Eun Seung-il, head of the Parking Management Division, stated, “With the spirit of ‘Me Me We Gangnam’?sharing, caring, and respecting?we will lead the creation of a ‘Dignified Gangnam’ by expanding shared services to solve the shortage of parking spaces and implementing resident-centered communication policies.”
