Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Inspects Illegal School Surveillance Cameras

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) recently conducted a comprehensive inspection from the 6th to the 11th of this month on a total of 35 local elementary, middle, and high schools to check for the installation of illegal filming cameras, aiming to prevent the increasingly serious crimes of illegal filming within schools.

The inspection involved Mayor Yu Seong-hoon and a total of 28 members of the Women-Friendly City Resident Participation Group. The inspection team conducted a detailed examination focusing on places suspected of camera installation such as electrical outlets and ventilation ducts in restrooms, using infrared camera lens detectors and electromagnetic wave detectors.

The inspection results found no illegal filming cameras within the schools. The district plans to lend inspection devices such as illegal filming detectors to schools upon request to prevent illegal filming crimes within schools.

To create a restroom environment that can be used with peace of mind, the district has hired four Safety Security Officers who regularly inspect restrooms in multi-use facilities such as public restrooms and commercial buildings for the presence of illegal filming cameras.

Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon stated, “Through this inspection, I hope to alleviate the concerns of students and parents regarding illegal filming in schools and instill the awareness that installing illegal filming cameras is a serious digital sex crime.” He added, “We will continue to make ongoing efforts to create a safe living environment free from illegal filming.”
