[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 11th that it has launched emergency damage recovery support to minimize property damage and inconvenience to residents amid continuous flooding damage caused by heavy rain exceeding 600mm.

The county reported a total of four casualties, including 2 deaths, 1 missing person, and 1 injured, with 928 displaced residents and an estimated 151.7 billion KRW in facility damage.

Governor Choi Hyung-sik requested the designation of a special disaster area while reporting on flood and emergency recovery status during Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun's visit to the damage site on the 9th, and decided to cancel all staff vacations for prompt damage investigation and recovery support.

Earlier, on the 10th, the county quickly assessed the damage situation starting with housing, roads, and farmland directly related to residents' lives through an executive meeting.

Thorough measures were urged to ensure that emergency repairs of public facilities such as rivers and sewage systems could be carried out promptly.

All staff, except for the minimum number left in each department, were deployed to flood damage sites, and support has continued from various sectors including Jeollanam-do Provincial Office and the 31st Division.

On the 10th, 292 personnel from the 1179th unit and 71 from Jeollanam-do Provincial Office participated, with a total of 351 volunteers from 2 units and 7 organizations involved.

On the same day, 210 people from Jeollanam-do Provincial Office, 226 soldiers from the 1179th unit, 6753rd unit, and reserve army company, and 30 members of the Volunteer Organization Council participated, focusing their efforts on recovery work.

Volunteers from the nearby Nam-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City and LG Electronics Service Flood Recovery Honam Support Team also actively joined in the recovery efforts.

Governor Choi Hyung-sik said, “We will thoroughly investigate the flood damage areas and do our best to ensure recovery is carried out as quickly as possible,” adding, “We will minimize the inconvenience of displaced residents through prompt supply support and temporary recovery.”
