[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man who assaulted a woman indiscriminately while she was trying to catch a taxi late at night has been apprehended by the police.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 10th that they have detained Mr. A on charges of assault and are currently investigating him.
Mr. A is accused of punching a woman in the face as she was trying to catch a taxi near Nonhyeon Station on Subway Line 7 around 12:40 a.m. on the 8th and then fleeing the scene. The police stated that Mr. A and the victim were strangers, and he claims that "the crime was committed under the influence of alcohol."
The police are conducting an investigation into the exact circumstances of the crime and whether there are any additional victims through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and witness testimonies. A police official said, "We will conduct a strict investigation into the motive of the crime and decide on the handling of the suspect based on the severity of the case."
