Hyundai Motor Australia Signs MOU with Local Energy Company for Hydrogen Supply

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Company is strengthening collaboration with local Australian energy companies to receive hydrogen produced using solar and wind power.

According to foreign media on the 10th, Hyundai Motor Australia recently signed a hydrogen supply MOU with local energy and gas companies Jemena and Coregas. Full-scale hydrogen supply is expected to begin around early next year.

Frank Tudor, Managing Director of Jemena, said, "The lack of charging infrastructure has been an obstacle for hydrogen vehicles, but with this memorandum of understanding, we will be able to demonstrate cases where hydrogen produced from renewable energy is directly utilized in vehicles and the transportation sector."

Currently, the only hydrogen charging station in Australia is the one installed at Hyundai's Sydney base showroom. Additionally, the establishment of hydrogen charging stations is being discussed in major cities such as Canberra, Melbourne, and Brisbane.

The Australian government is interested in producing hydrogen using renewable energy and plans to foster the hydrogen production and export industry as a key sector over the next decade.
