[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] One of the cattle that were swept away by the floodwaters caused by heavy rain and the collapse of the Seosicheon embankment in Yangjeong Village, Gurye, Jeonnam, and climbed onto a roof, was rescued after three days.
On the morning of the 10th at 9 a.m., Gurye County, together with the fire department, launched a rescue operation using tranquilizer guns and cranes to save the cattle that could not come down from the roof.
In Gurye alone, about 1,600 cattle were affected by the flood, and some of the cattle that climbed onto the roofs survived by risking their lives.
The rescue team fired a tranquilizer gun at the hindquarters of one of the ten or so cattle on the roof of a farmhouse in Yangjeong Village, Gurye-eup.
After an hour passed without the cattle sitting down and resisting, the rescue team fired one more shot from the tranquilizer gun.

Finally, when the cattle sat down, the rescue workers approached and attached rescue belts connected to the crane hook to the head, front legs, and hind legs to evenly distribute the weight.
The cattle was then lifted, but some of the ropes loosened in midair, causing the belt to catch around its neck.
Accordingly, the crane quickly lowered the cattle, which was hanging by the neck, to the ground around 10:50 a.m. that day, successfully completing the rescue.
On the morning of the 10th, a cow was standing inside a house in a village in Gurye-eup, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do. This cow is usually raised in a nearby barn, but due to recent heavy rains and river flooding, it floated on the water and took refuge on the roof. After the water receded, it was unable to come down to the ground and remained there until it fell inside the house.
Some cattle fell to the ground as the residential roofs collapsed.
Until yesterday, four cattle were isolated on the roofs, but as the roofs could not bear the weight of the cattle, they collapsed one by one, causing the cattle to fall to the ground.
Among the cattle that fell to the ground, two that fell onto the floor and wooden floor were severely injured in their legs but survived.
However, the cattle that fell onto the debris pile caused by the heavy rain died.
Meanwhile, in the village, about 50 out of 115 households raise approximately 1,600 cattle and 2,000 pigs, and it is reported that about 400 cattle died due to this flood.
