[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police applied for an arrest warrant for a mother who threatened her son with a weapon for disciplinary reasons, but the prosecution rejected it.
According to the police on the 10th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office rejected the arrest warrant application submitted by the Gangdong Police Station on the 4th against Park Mo (38), who is accused of violating the Child Welfare Act, and instructed them to conduct supplementary investigations.
The prosecution reportedly rejected the warrant, judging that there was no risk of flight, which is a reason for detention. Park is currently hospitalized. The police plan to reapply for the arrest warrant after supplementary investigations.
Park is accused of grabbing and dragging her son Lee Mo (10) by the hair and threatening him with a weapon around 8:20 p.m. on the 22nd of last month in a residential area in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. In the police investigation, Park stated that "this happened while disciplining because the son did not listen." The police have currently separated Lee and sent him to a shelter.
Park Mo was also sent to family court last July for assaulting Lee for coming home late, and due to past abuse records, she is known to have been registered with the police as a "family with a risk of domestic violence recurrence."
