[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] As Typhoon Jangmi, the fifth typhoon of the season, gradually moves northward, very strong winds and heavy rain are expected, especially in the southern regions.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 1 PM on the 10th, Typhoon Jangmi is moving north-northeast at a speed of 51 km/h, located approximately 119 km south-southwest off the coast of Tongyeong, Gyeongnam.

The typhoon is expected to continue moving northeast and make landfall near Tongyeong, Gyeongnam around 3 PM today. It is forecasted to approach Busan by 4 PM and then pass through Pohang about two hours later before moving out to the East Sea, the KMA said.

Due to the warm and humid air mass accompanying the typhoon, Chungcheong Province and the southern regions are expected to receive 50 to 150 mm of rain by tomorrow, with some areas in Chungcheong and Jeonbuk receiving up to 250 mm.

Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Gangwon Province, Jeju Island, and the five western islands are expected to see rainfall amounts of 30 to 80 mm. Some areas in southern Gangwon may experience over 120 mm of rain.
