Urgent Care Needed for Middle-aged, Elderly, and Disabled... Gangdong-gu Signs Business Agreement with 25 Care Service Providers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is promoting the ‘Care SOS Center’ project, which provides customized welfare services for residents who have difficulty caring for family members or experience care gaps due to sudden accidents or illnesses.
The Care SOS Center offers care services by having a care manager visit residents in need of care who apply either by visiting or calling their local community service center. The care manager assesses the required services and connects them with 25 service providers partnered with Gangdong-gu.
The service targets middle-aged (50 years and older), elderly, and disabled individuals who meet any of the following criteria: ▲ having difficulty moving alone or performing independent daily activities ▲ absence of family members who can provide care or inability of family to provide care ▲ not currently using existing care services or experiencing unavoidable gaps during service use. The care manager makes a comprehensive judgment to decide the final support eligibility.
The services provided by the Care SOS Center include four types: ▲ temporary home care service (visiting homes to provide housekeeping support and care) ▲ short-term facility service (short-term facility admission) ▲ meal support service (maintaining basic dietary needs) ▲ and information counseling service.
Additionally, starting January next year, the district plans to expand services by adding accompaniment support for essential outings, housing convenience services for simple home repairs and maintenance, welfare check services for emotional support such as daily check-ins and companionship, and health support services for health consultations and nutrition management.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “With rapid aging and an increase in single-person households, the demand for care continues to grow. Through the promotion of the Care SOS Center project, we plan to eliminate care gaps for neighbors in need and establish a more thorough care system.”
