[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] An 'Emergency Intervention Team' that immediately responds to emergency situations caused by mental illness has begun its mission in Ulsan.
Ulsan City announced on the 10th that it has established an 'Emergency Intervention Team' within the Ulsan Mental Health Welfare Center, capable of on-site response to psychiatric emergencies, and started operation from August.
The Emergency Intervention Team, consisting of two members per team, operates during weekday nights, weekends, and holidays, while during weekday daytime hours, the five district and county basic mental health welfare centers respond.
The Emergency Intervention Team dispatches to the scene together with police and fire ambulance personnel to quickly assess the mental illness status and psychiatric crisis of high-risk individuals exhibiting self-harm or threatening behavior, and plays a role in inducing stabilization. They are also tasked with supporting rapid connection to appropriate medical institutions when emergency treatment is necessary.
They handle duties such as psychological counseling support through 24-hour mental health crisis counseling phone lines, providing mental health information, hospital information provision and linking to community services, as well as confirming the safety of high-risk groups through phone monitoring and providing psychological support.
Ulsan City aims to establish a 24-hour psychiatric emergency response system and a community safety net in the Ulsan area through the operation of the Emergency Intervention Team, maintaining safety for the individuals involved, their families, and the local community.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “We will cooperate with the police, fire department, and others to provide citizens with a safe and healthy social environment 24 hours a day through efficient mental emergency response.”
