Jeonnam Fire Department, All-Out Effort for Heavy Rain Damage Recovery and Life Rescue

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department has entered an emergency duty system and launched an all-out effort for life rescue as damage continued to occur due to heavy rain in the Jeonnam area.


According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 9th, as of 7 a.m. that day, 6,096 reports related to heavy rain were received.


In this regard, a total of 507 people were rescued at damage sites such as landslides and flooding, and 731 tons of drainage support activities were carried out at 114 locations including residential areas near Songwol-dong, Naju.


Safety measures were also implemented 748 times for flooded houses and roads.


On the 8th at around 8:48 p.m., 47 personnel and 15 pieces of equipment were deployed to the landslide isolation site at Natural Dream Pension located in Yongbang-myeon, Gurye, and all 73 guests were safely rescued.


Also, about 40 people trapped in the building as water rose to the first floor of Hyosarang Nursing Hospital in Gurye-eup, Gurye, were evacuated to nearby safe places using five rubber boats, and about 210 residents of flooded houses in the Bongdong-ri area near the hospital were safely relocated to four places including Gurye Middle School.


In particular, 25 village residents in Daepyeong-ri, Gokseong-eup, Gokseong, which was severely flooded by this heavy rain, were also rescued and evacuated to places such as Gokseong Leisure Culture Center to prevent casualties.


In addition, at 5:03 p.m. on the 8th, a peritoneal dialysis patient staying at a pension in Toji-myeon, Gurye, urgently requested medicine delivery, and various methods such as helicopter and rubber boat were attempted to approach, and the patient was urgently transported to Gurye Hospital at around 3 a.m. on the 9th, completed medication, and returned home to Siheung, Gyeonggi-do at around 5 a.m.


Jeonnam Fire Department raised the emergency level from level 1 to level 2 on the 8th, organized half of the available firefighting forces into work shifts, and deployed 1,119 pieces of equipment and 2,673 personnel to focus on preventing damage to residents and recovery through rapid life rescue activities.


Ma Jaeyoon, head of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, said, “We will do our best to check the heavy rain damage situation to prevent additional damage and to take preventive measures and rapid recovery for dangerous areas.”
