Gyeonggi-do Implements 'Proactive Measures' Including Evacuation of Residents in Flood Risk Areas Kim Hee-gyeom, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, is presiding over an emergency inspection meeting on heavy rain damage and response status at the provincial government disaster situation room on the morning of the 9th.


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has taken preemptive measures such as evacuating 528 residents from landslide-prone areas and regions at risk of casualties, as heavy rain is forecast again in the central region on the 9th and 10th.


As of 6 a.m. on the 9th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had ordered 420 residents in eight cities and counties at risk of landslides?Yongin, Hwaseong, Paju, Icheon, Anseong, Gwacheon, Gapyeong, and Yeoncheon?to evacuate in advance. Additionally, 108 residents in four cities and counties?Namyangju, Anyang, Gwacheon, and Gapyeong?where casualties are a concern were also evacuated preemptively.


From the 1st to the 9th, the province supplied a total of 6,300 emergency relief kits to seven cities and counties, including 3,100 in Yeoncheon and 2,100 in Paju, to support disaster victims. The province also provided disaster relief stockpiles such as 290 disaster tents and 380 mattresses.


On the 10th, the province will urgently support the disaster management fund with 200 million KRW each for Yongin, Paju, Yeoncheon, and Gapyeong, among 31 cities and counties in the province.


Kim Hee-gyeom, the first deputy governor of Gyeonggi Province, said at an emergency inspection meeting on heavy rain damage and response held at the provincial government disaster situation room on the morning of the same day, "Tonight through tomorrow morning will be the critical period of this monsoon season," adding, "Especially in landslide-prone areas and reservoir collapse risk areas, please actively promote that local residents do not let their guard down and respond immediately to dangerous situations on site."


He continued, "Typhoon Jangmi (No. 5) is also approaching from the north, so please respond thoroughly to prevent further damage and pay attention to quarantine measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in temporary evacuation facilities for disaster victims."


Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is forecast to receive continuous rainfall of 100 to 200 mm from noon on the 9th to midnight on the 10th, continuing until the 14th. Due to this rain, Gyeonggi Province has suffered nine casualties, including eight deaths and one missing person, and 392 disaster victims in 231 households. Additionally, damage occurred in 170 landslide sites, 90 agricultural infrastructure sites such as reservoirs, 47 rivers, 462 flooded houses, 2,699 hectares of crops, and 3,171 vinyl greenhouses.
