2 More Confirmed Cases at Gippeum153 Church Increase Total to 20

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] In the Seoul metropolitan area, new cases of COVID-19 are occurring centered around churches.


On the 9th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of 12 noon, the number of confirmed cases related to 'Banseok Church' located in Pung-dong, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province increased by 8, bringing the total to 24.


Through confirmed cases at this church, secondary transmission continued into the local community following the City Forest Children's Daycare Center. Previously, 4 people including the daycare director, childcare teachers, and 2 children were confirmed positive, and an additional 8 people including family members and acquaintances of the daycare infection cases were confirmed positive.


The number of confirmed cases related to Gippeum 153 Church located in Jugyo-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si also increased by 2, totaling 20. Among them, 8 are church members, 1 is a family member or acquaintance, and 11 are related to workplaces.


According to the CDCH, the pastor of this church belongs to a multi-level marketing company called 'Elgol In Bio' in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and one additional case related to this company was confirmed. One staff member at Sanbuk Elementary School in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, where the pastor's wife works, also tested positive.


Additionally, one more case was confirmed related to a small group meeting of the Nuga Mission in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, increasing the total confirmed cases to 5. Four attendees of the mission meeting and one acquaintance of an attendee were confirmed. The CDCH believes that the risk of infection increased as the mission group attendees had meals together after worship.
