[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] A green light has been turned on for water supply to Muhak District in Hwasan-myeon, Haenam-gun, an area suffering from chronic drought and difficulties in agricultural water supply.

According to Haenam-gun on the 9th, 1 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been secured for the development of agricultural water in Hwasan Muhak District. By the end of next year, a pumping station and reservoir will be installed in the Gajwa-ri area of Hwasan-myeon, and a 4.5 km-long water transmission pipeline connecting these facilities will be constructed.

Once the project is completed, water from Gocheonamho Reservoir will be supplied to 84 hectares of Muhak District, which is expected to completely resolve the shortage of agricultural water.

Most of Muhak District in Hwasan-myeon consists of rain-fed rice paddies, and agricultural water has been supplied using private wells. Last year, drought damage occurred over an area of 25 hectares, highlighting the chronic water shortage problem.

In addition, Haenam-gun was selected for the National Safe Public Restroom Construction Leading Project and secured 110 million KRW in special grants.

Through this project, a new public restroom will be built at the Cheongnyong-ri bus terminal, located in Hwawon-myeon, and safety facilities such as improvements to old restroom facilities and installation of safety bells within the jurisdiction will be expanded.

The Hwawon Bus Terminal restroom has had ongoing safety concerns because the restroom entrance is adjacent to the parking area, and the facilities were outdated relative to the number of users, leading to the decision to rebuild.

Furthermore, for public restrooms in eup and myeon areas, CCTV, safety screens, emergency bells, and other safety equipment will be installed to alleviate user inconvenience caused by aging facilities and to enhance safety against various crimes, thereby creating safe and comfortable restrooms.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “With the securing of this special grant, we expect the long-standing wishes of farmers in Hwasan Muhak District to be fulfilled,” and added, “We will do our best to secure national funds to resolve county administrative issues in the second half of the year.”
