[Breaking News] Japanese National Research Institute: "New Genetic Sequence of COVID-19 Spreading Across Japan"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] A novel coronavirus (COVID-19) virus with a new genetic sequence has recently spread throughout Japan, according to an analysis by a Japanese national research institute.

On the 9th, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the National Institute of Infectious Diseases of Japan recently announced that a new type of COVID-19 virus with a novel genetic sequence suddenly appeared around mid-June this year, centered in Tokyo (東京).

The institute identified that a majority of the rapidly increasing confirmed cases nationwide were infected with this new type of COVID-19 virus.
