[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] eBay Korea announced on the 9th that its dedicated delivery service, Smile Delivery, has expanded next-day delivery service to Jeju Island.
Smile Delivery is a service introduced by eBay Korea in 2014 to provide Gmarket and Auction customers with a fast combined delivery experience (packing products from multiple sellers into one box). Customers can receive their orders the next day if placed by 8 PM in most regions nationwide.
Previously, orders for Smile Delivery products to Jeju Island took 2 to 3 days to arrive. In response, eBay Korea established dedicated Smile Delivery vehicles and delivery personnel infrastructure in Jeju Island to create a next-day arrival environment. For sellers participating in Smile Delivery, this provides an opportunity to expand their market to Jeju Island, which has a population approaching 700,000.
With this service expansion, Jeju residents can now receive urgently needed items such as daily necessities and diapers within just one day of ordering. As Smile Delivery continues to expand its product categories from daily necessities and processed foods to small and large home appliances, convenience for users is expected to increase further. While improving delivery speed, the additional delivery fee, which is inevitable due to the characteristics of island regions, has been minimized to 2,000 KRW.
Meanwhile, Smile Delivery also makes significant efforts to provide affordable purchasing experiences by offering up to 15% discount coupons on more than 30 major food and daily necessity brands every month. Additionally, using Smile Delivery together with eBay Korea’s membership program ‘Smile Club,’ easy payment service ‘Smile Pay,’ and private label credit card (PLCC) ‘Smile Card’ increases discounts and reward benefits.
Song Seung-hwan, head of eBay Korea’s Smile Delivery Business Division, said, “It is highly meaningful that we have established infrastructure to provide the same level of Smile Delivery experience in the Jeju area as in Seoul and the metropolitan area.” He added, “We plan to continuously expand the base so that Smile Delivery can be a highly satisfactory service for both purchasing and selling customers.”
