[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Electronics, which is diversifying its robot business with guide robots and sub-bots, has now introduced a hotel robot solution.
LG Electronics announced on the 9th that it recently started a pilot service of outdoor delivery robots at the Mayfield Hotel Seoul in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. A total of two units will be operated until mid-month.
The outdoor delivery robots serve food to customers by moving inside and outside the hotel building for the summer event "Summer at the Terrace" held by the Mayfield Hotel Seoul.
When customers sit on the outdoor terrace and order food, the robot carries the completed dishes from the kitchen to the table where the customer is seated. After the customers finish their meals and place the dishes on the shelf, the robot moves to the dish return area.
Until recently, LG Electronics has introduced indoor robots such as guide robots and sub-bots, but this is the first time it has introduced outdoor delivery robots. The company plans to expand the application areas by verifying and applying outdoor delivery robots in various spaces including hotel services, university campuses, and apartment complexes.
LG Electronics and Mayfield Hotel Seoul plan to introduce a robot that pours draft beer at the hotel buffet by mid-next month. When an employee inputs a beer order into the system, the robot identifies the ordered beer, grabs a cup, and moves it to the beer dispenser. Then, it picks up the cup filled with beer and places it on the serving table.
LG Electronics plans to expand its business area by presenting an integrated hotel robot solution that provides outdoor delivery, food and beverage services, concierge services, and more at hotels.
Earlier this year, LG Electronics showcased the "LG CLOi Dining solution" at CES 2020. The solution for restaurant operation and management demonstrated that robots can provide various services such as customer service, ordering, food preparation, serving, and dishwashing.
Jin-seo Noh, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Robot Business Center, said, "We will continue to develop robot service solutions that provide customers with new experiences and value."
