[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus announced on the 9th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on '5G-based unmanned forklift joint business promotion' with global forklift manufacturer Clark Material Handling Asia, AI-based logistics solution provider MoShine, and indoor positioning solution provider KEN.
The 5G unmanned forklift is a solution that enables remote unmanned operation of forklifts, which are key equipment used across various industrial sectors such as manufacturing plants, logistics centers, and ports.
The 5G unmanned forklift introduced by the four companies features precise positioning with an accuracy of 10 mm and the capability for a single operator to simultaneously control up to 50 units. LG Uplus explained, "This not only reduces costs but also minimizes direct operation of heavy equipment, thereby reducing safety accidents that occur during logistics transportation."
The four companies plan to begin the deployment of 5G unmanned forklifts starting with a pilot project with comprehensive logistics company Pantos. They aim to complete the pilot within the year and proceed with commercialization, while continuously strengthening collaboration through the development of video solutions for constant remote monitoring of unmanned forklifts and expanding the 5G-based equipment lineup.
Cho Won-seok, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus, said, "Unmanned forklifts are one of the core facilities driving digital transformation in industrial areas such as smart factories and smart logistics. We will lead the unmanned forklift business through synergy with 5G enterprise private networks."
