SSG.com to Host Special Exhibition Featuring Popular Restaurant 'Meal Kit' Products

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] SSG.com will hold a special event called ‘Introducing Dawn Delivery Gourmet Restaurants’ from the 10th to the 16th of this month. They will gather 12 types of meal kit products from famous offline gourmet restaurants and offer a 20% discount on all products.

Meal kits from various dining establishments such as the Japanese lunchbox specialty store ‘Yoiben’, Vietnamese cuisine specialty ‘Hanoi’s Morning’, and American Southern home-style restaurant ‘Shaibana’ will be available through dawn delivery. The menu is diversified considering preferences including Korean, Western, Japanese, and Southeast Asian cuisines.

First, an exclusive product available only through SSG.com’s dawn delivery, the ‘Yoiben’ lunchbox, is prepared at a special price. The Japanese-style sashimi rice bowl ‘Chirashi Sashimi Donburi Lunchbox’ and the savory ‘Grilled Eel Donburi Lunchbox’ are each sold for 15,200 KRW, and the ‘Chashu Donburi Lunchbox’ is sold for 6,800 KRW. The summer-appropriate ‘Huru Soba’ can be purchased for 9,590 KRW. These gourmet products, previously only available offline at department stores and shopping mall food courts, are brought online for the first time.

Additionally, the representative dishes of the Vietnamese specialty restaurant ‘Hanoi’s Morning’, such as ‘Vietnamese Pho’ and ‘Bun Cha’?a combination of charcoal-grilled pork and pho?are sold at a 20% discount for 8,720 KRW. The American home-style menu ‘Big Boy Chili Spaghetti’ from ‘Shaibana’ can be purchased for 10,280 KRW. It features a chili sauce filled with plenty of meat paired with American cheese, allowing customers to enjoy the same flavor as ordering in the restaurant.

For Korean cuisine, spicy stir-fried dishes are prepared. The ‘Nakgopsae (Octopus + Intestines + Shrimp)’ from the 50-year-old traditional ‘Busan Jobang Nakji’ is offered at 6,390 KRW, and the ‘Osam Bulgogi’ from the Jamsil gourmet restaurant ‘Gunsan Ojingeo’ in Seoul is introduced at 12,720 KRW.

Besides these, meal kits that provide a simple yet hearty meal such as ‘Hanchon Seolleongtang’, ‘Yuksudang Suyuk Gukbap’, and ‘Jeong Dayul Seafood Stir-fried Jjamppong’ are sold for under 10,000 KRW.

SSG.com planned this event focusing on the rapidly increasing demand for meal kits. In addition to existing best-selling products, there is a growing trend of converting offline gourmet restaurant menus into meal kits, so they put great effort into selecting various products to introduce to customers.

In fact, an analysis of SSG.com’s meal kit sales from January to July this year showed a growth rate more than four times that of the previous year. It is especially popular among single-person households and dual-income families who prefer convenient cooking.

As the number of customers seeking meal kit products increases, SSG.com plans to significantly expand the variety of products and continuously promote the meal kit conversion of famous gourmet restaurants through collaboration with specialized companies.
