Festival Kickoff with Children's Drawing Contest and Online Photo Contest... Delivering a Message of Hope through Culture and Arts Beyond Contact-Free
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced that it has kicked off the ‘2020 Ontact Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival’ to be held from September 23 to 27 at Seokchon Lake and other locations.
The Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival, Seoul’s representative historical and cultural festival, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has been planned as the ‘Great Baekje Exhibition’ in collaboration with several local governments within the Baekje cultural sphere.
However, due to COVID-19, the nature of the festival has been changed to ‘Ontact’ (online contact).
The festival is prepared to be enjoyed by anyone both online and offline, going beyond non-face-to-face interaction, to recreate the historical and cultural value of Hanseong Baekje and to deliver emotional comfort and hope to tourists.
First, the ‘Our Hope Children’s Drawing Contest’ marked the beginning. From July 24 to August 3, 72 drawings by elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 on the themes of overcoming COVID-19, hope, or the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival were submitted, and 7 final works were selected.
In particular, Songpa-gu plans to produce and exhibit these works as ‘Hope Banners’ on the central divider of Olympic-ro and throughout Songpa-gu until the end of September, conveying messages of change and hope in residents’ daily lives.
Additionally, the ‘Hanseong Baekje Online Photo Contest’ is ongoing from August 4 to 31.
Anyone can participate in the photo contest if they have photos depicting the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival from 1994 to 2019. Participants can upload their photos publicly on Instagram with hashtags (#HanseongBaekjeCulturalFestival #OntactHanseongBaekjeCulturalFestival #SongpaGuRepresentativeFestival #OnlinePhotoContest #PhotoContest).
Ten selected works, from the grand prize to participation awards, will be exhibited at the ‘Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival Footprints Exhibition’ during the ‘2020 Ontact Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival’ period.
The total prize money is 4 million KRW, and detailed information can be found on the Songpa-gu website or at the Cultural and Sports Division of the district office.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu said, “Starting with the drawing and photo contests, we are preparing the ‘Ontact Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival’ with enhanced content,” adding, “Based on culture and arts, we want to overcome the current crisis and create a festival that cares for each other, delivering hope to all participants.”
