'Mass Flight Cancellations' Gwangju Airport Resumes Operations at 6:40 AM On the afternoon of the 8th, part of the runway at Gwangju Airport was flooded, causing 12 flights to Jeju, Seoul, Yangyang, and other destinations to be canceled. [Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that flight operations at Gwangju Airport resumed from 6:40 a.m. on the 9th.


According to the Ministry, starting with the first arrival flight of the day (08:10, Gimpo → Gwangju) operated by Jin Air, all flights (25 departures and 26 arrivals) are now operational.


Due to heavy rainfall of 484.8mm recently at Gwangju Airport, many flights were canceled the previous day.


Airlines informed passengers that landings were prohibited due to runway flooding at Gwangju Airport.


The Ministry urged passengers to check flight information with airlines in advance before using the airport. Real-time flight information is also available on the Korea Airports Corporation’s airport-specific websites.
