Typhoon Jangmi No. 5 Forms... Impact Expected on Jeju and Gyeongnam on the 10th Typhoon No. 5 "Jangmi" is a name submitted by Korea and formed on the 9th in the sea about 600 km south-southwest of Okinawa.

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The 5th typhoon of the season, Jangmi, formed at 3 a.m. on the 9th in the sea about 600 km south-southwest of Okinawa, Japan. South Korea will come under its influence starting from the morning of the 10th, bringing heavy rain.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 9th, Typhoon Jangmi is currently moving northward at a speed of 37 km/h and is expected to approach the sea about 350 km south of Seogwipo around 3 a.m. on the 10th. It is forecasted to pass about 50 km southwest of Busan at 3 p.m. that day, affecting South Korea.

Due to the influence of Typhoon Jangmi, rain will fall nationwide on the 10th, with particularly strong winds and very heavy rainfall expected in Gyeongnam and Jeju, which are directly in the typhoon's path.

Additionally, the southern coast affected by the typhoon may experience flooding in low-lying coastal areas during high tide (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.), so special caution is required to prevent damage.

As of 7 a.m. that day, very heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour is falling in Gyeonggi Province and Chungcheongnam-do. The rain cloud band developed over the West Sea continues to move in, bringing very heavy rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning to Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheong Province, and the western coast of Jeollabuk-do.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Between the cold, dry air from the north and the hot, humid North Pacific high pressure from the south, a strong wind carrying a large amount of water vapor is blowing, forming a narrow north-south and long east-west rain band. Very heavy and abundant rain will fall mainly in the central region, with significant regional variations in precipitation."

The Korea Meteorological Administration urged, "Since the ground has weakened due to recent heavy rains and more rain is expected until the 11th, please prepare thoroughly to prevent damage such as flooding in low-lying areas, landslides, and retaining wall collapses."
