'Runway Flooding' Causes Cancellation of 12 Flights at Gwangju Airport (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Amid 484.8mm of heavy rain in Gwangju over the past two days, numerous flights at Gwangju Airport were canceled on the 8th.


According to Gwangju Airport, 12 flights departing and arriving after Asiana Airlines flight OZ8148, which was scheduled to arrive at Gwangju Airport at 6:40 PM after departing Jeju Airport at 5:45 PM, were canceled.


Departing from Gwangju were five flights bound for Jeju (KE2907, OZ8149, LJ595, TW907) and Seoul (7C384).


Arriving at Gwangju were seven flights from Jeju (OZ8148, KE1908, TW908, LJ594, 7C604), Yangyang (TW9924), and Seoul (LJ373).


Earlier that morning, flights were delayed between 30 minutes and 2 hours but operated, and after 1 PM, flights operated without major delays.


Airlines informed passengers that landings were prohibited due to runway flooding at Gwangju Airport.
