[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Due to heavy rain over two days, the embankment of the Seomjin River collapsed, flooding farmland and villages.

According to the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters and Iksan Regional Land Management Office on the 8th, around 12:50 PM that day, the Seomjin River embankment near Geumgokgyo Bridge in Gwiseok-ri, Geumji-myeon, Namwon-si, collapsed.

The Iksan Regional Land Management Office estimated the collapse range of the embankment to be between 50 and 100 meters.

They explained that it is not possible to confirm the exact extent of the damage as access to the site is currently restricted.

About 190 residents from three villages in Gwiseok-ri reportedly evacuated to the Munhwa Nuri Center next to the Geumji-myeon Office, a designated shelter, as the water level of the Seomjin River rose that morning.

The Iksan Regional Land Management Office reported that there were no casualties due to the embankment collapse, but around 70 households in the surrounding farmland and villages were flooded.

The fire authorities issued a Level 2 response alert around 1:30 PM that day and are responding to the incident.

The response levels are divided into Levels 1 to 3, and Level 2 is a warning that mobilizes personnel and equipment from the jurisdictional fire station and 5 to 6 neighboring fire stations.

A representative from the Iksan Regional Land Management Office said, "We are currently approaching the embankment to assess the situation on site," and added, "We will announce the exact damage situation as soon as it becomes known."
