In 2023, Exclusive Carsharing Service for Public Rental Housing Residents to be Implemented Nationwide

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chunhee] A car-sharing service for residents of public rental housing will be implemented nationwide in 2023.

Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 9th that Radius Lab has been selected as the operator for the 3rd phase of the car-sharing project "LH Happy Car," targeting residents of public rental housing, and that the full-scale project will commence.

LH Happy Car was first introduced in 2013 to 50 LH rental housing complexes to promote the sharing economy, reduce residents' cost burdens, and improve mobility convenience. Currently, a total of 330 vehicles are operated across 175 complexes in the Seoul metropolitan area and Daegu.

LH plans to expand the service coverage to 305 complexes this year in collaboration with Radius Lab. Next year, the service will be extended to 442 complexes in metropolitan cities and some local areas, and by 2023, it aims to fully implement the service in 555 complexes nationwide.

Various new value-added services that did not exist before will also be provided. These include a subscription service with a monthly flat-rate discount, and a hybrid ownership-sharing service that allows residents to use vehicles like their own but share them with other residents during idle times. Through a partnership with "Modu-ui Juchajang" (Everyone's Parking Lot), the largest online parking platform in Korea, nationwide parking information will be provided along with affordable mobile parking tickets, shared parking reservations, and payment services, further enhancing user-centered customized services.

Additionally, preparations for service advancement will proceed, including vehicle operation assistance for socially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled, hiring public rental housing residents as dedicated "vehicle guardians" responsible for vehicle management to improve customer satisfaction and create jobs.

An LH official stated, "This 3rd phase project is expected to expand car-sharing services beyond the Seoul metropolitan area to local regions, becoming a commonly used service for residents living in public rental housing."
