[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Seomjin River overflowed, causing residents in the areas of Gurye and Gokseong to evacuate.

According to the Yeongsan River Flood Control Office and local governments on the 8th, the Seomjin River overflowed due to heavy rain exceeding 400mm since the previous day in the southern region.

On the morning of the same day, the Seomjin River overflowed in Godal-myeon, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, flooding farmland and residential yards.

As the river overflowed in Gokseong-eup as well, Gokseong-gun issued evacuation orders to residents in four villages: Jangseong-ri, Daepyeong-ri, Dongsan-ri, and Singi-ri.

In Songjeong-ri, Toji-myeon, Gurye-gun, flooding caused the collapse of the Seosicheon embankment. Flooding is progressing toward Yangjeong Village in Gurye-eup.

Gurye-gun is guiding residents in the low-lying areas near Yangjeong Village to evacuate to Gurye Girls' Middle School.

A Yeongsan River Flood Control Office official stated, "Currently, a flood warning and a flood advisory have been issued for Eumnae-ri in Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam, and Dongrimgyo in Namwon-si, Jeonbuk, respectively, both located along the main stream of the Seomjin River."
