[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] U.S. President Donald Trump stated that if he is re-elected, he would negotiate with North Korea very quickly.
On the 7th (local time), President Trump held a press conference at his private resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, saying, "If we win (the election), we will negotiate very quickly with Iran and very quickly with North Korea."
He also repeated his claim that if he had not been elected in the 2016 election, there would have been a war with North Korea.
President Trump emphasized, "Everyone said Trump would get us into a war, but no. It was the exact opposite," adding, "We are actually engaging with North Korea."
President Trump's remarks on this day officially confirmed that negotiating with North Korea would be one of the top priorities if re-elected.
It is also interpreted as reflecting his intention to minimize provocations from North Korea by expressing willingness to reach a deal before the election.
However, on the other hand, it seems to imply that negotiations with North Korea are realistically difficult before the election.
In an interview with Fox News on the 5th, President Trump also said that if there were no November election, he would be at the negotiating table with North Korea and that he is doing well with North Korea.
He said, "We are doing well with North Korea," showing that although denuclearization talks with North Korea are currently stalled, he still holds a positive stance.
