Uljin-gun Secures 7 'Competency Centers' for Life Digital Education... The Most in Gyeongbuk Province

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 8th that it is taking the lead in creating an environment for government-level 'Digital Competency Enhancement Education' as the digital transformation centered on unmanned and non-face-to-face services accelerates due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Uljin-gun has secured the largest number of digital competency centers in the province, with 7 locations including 2 fixed SOC education centers (including base centers) and 5 mobile SOC education centers. In addition, 24 instructors and supporters have been assigned by region to 10 eup and myeon, and the first phase of the project will be carried out from September this year to January next year.

The 'Digital Competency Center' provides customized digital education by class and level. It operates various programs divided into four stages: basic digital education such as sending simple text messages and installing basic apps; digital life education such as kiosk usage and mobile shopping; intermediate education including graphic design; and employment-linked education such as connection with vocational specialized institutions.

The 'Digital Competency Enhancement Education,' conducted as a national project, is currently in the process of selecting operators by province. In Uljin-gun, from the 5th to the 21st of this month, trainees, instructors, and supporters are being pre-recruited to ensure smooth progress of the project.

Jeon Chan-geol, the mayor of Uljin-gun, said, "Since we have secured and operate more mobile SOC education centers than other cities and counties, we will provide great help to those who have been marginalized from digital culture through visiting education," adding, "We will actively support residents so that they do not suffer difficulties due to digital issues in their daily lives."
