[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is falling across Gwangju and Jeonnam.

According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 7th, as of 2:30 PM, heavy rain warnings have been issued in various parts of Gwangju and Jeonnam due to the weakened low pressure from Typhoon No. 4 ‘Hagupit (HAGUPIT)’.

‘Heavy Rain Warning’ has been issued for Gwangju, Hwasun, Naju, Gokseong, and Damyang, while ‘Heavy Rain Advisory’ is in effect for Suncheon, Gwangyang, Heuksando, Hongdo, Muan, Sinan (excluding Heuksan-myeon), Mokpo, Yeonggwang, Hampyeong, Yeongam, Jangseong, and Gurye.

The rainfall accumulated so far today includes 117 mm in Hwasun (Buk-myeon), 115 mm in Naju, 104.5 mm in Gwangju (Nam-gu), 86 mm in Ok-gwa, 76.5 mm in Gurye (Piagol), and 47 mm in Gokseong.

During the day, very heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning is expected, with some temporary lull periods, but heavy rain is forecast to resume from late afternoon through the morning of the 8th.

At 2:57 PM on the same day, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, sent a safety alert text message stating, ‘Due to concerns about flooding at Yangdong Taepyeonggyo Bridge, pedestrians and vehicles are advised to take detours.’

The expected rainfall until the 8th is 50 to 100 mm, with some areas receiving up to 150 mm.

This rain will continue until the 8th, and the Meteorological Administration forecasts sporadic convective showers on the 9th and 10th.

A Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration official said, “Due to the recent heavy rain, the ground is weakened, and the very heavy rain expected ahead raises concerns about flooding of rivers and reservoirs, landslides, retaining wall collapses, and flooding of farmland, low-lying areas, and underground roads. We urge thorough inspection of risk factors in advance and strict preparedness, and advise refraining from outdoor activities such as going out or entering dangerous areas to prevent casualties.”
