Sale of Large-scale Geumo Hanok Complex, Yangpyeong Hanok Village, Gaining Popularity Among Yangpyeong Country Houses

The predominant housing types in Korea are apartments and villas. Traditional hanok houses are based on floor-sitting lifestyles and are vulnerable to poor insulation, making them cold in winter. Being open-plan spaces, they are also susceptible to fire hazards and security issues.

However, as various problems with apartments have been identified and people's lifestyles have changed, more people have started to seek out hanok again. There is no worry about noise between floors, and residents can spend their own time gardening trees or flowers in the yard. Hanok also offers freedom from environmental issues such as atopy.

Due to the traditional beauty of hanok, coexistence with nature, spatial diversity, psychological stability, and eco-friendly building materials, the preference for hanok is increasing.

Amid this trend, Geumo Hanok is selling plots in the Yangpyeong Hanok Village, located at 4-10 Hajapori, Gaegun-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, consisting of 36 lots ranging from 432㎡ to 640㎡.

The hanok village, where 36 traditional hanok houses will be built, consists of four types of houses. The ‘ㅡ’-shaped hanok features a 3-bay layout with rooms and living rooms designed larger than conventional east-west facing houses to enhance openness. The ‘ㄱ’-shaped hanok centers the living room and separates each room and kitchen to strengthen independence. The ‘ㄷ’-shaped house is designed so that two households can live comfortably with independent master bedrooms and rooms. The ‘ㅁ’-shaped house, designed in the traditional ‘ㅁ’ style unique to the central-northern region of Korea, includes a master bedroom, sarangbang (men’s quarters), and daecheong (main hall), receiving favorable reviews from visitors.

Essential elements of hanok such as tiled roofs, wooden structural columns and beams, daecheong floors, and yards are incorporated into the four types, allowing consumers to choose their preferred style.

The main building material of hanok, wood, can be selected from domestic Korean red pine (Gangneung) or North American Douglas fir (wood dried for over a year and treated with natural oil stain for fire and moisture resistance, requiring no special maintenance). Foundation stones use Iksan Hwangdeung stone, flooring is made of oak, windows are double-layered sash windows with a low-E system, and advanced systems such as heat exchange ventilation and home automation are installed. Kitchen sinks are from Hanssem, shoe cabinets and built-in wardrobes are included, and basic options cover fences, landscaping (2-3 pine trees), lawns, and gates.

‘Yangpyeong Hanok Village’ also boasts well-developed transportation infrastructure. It is located 10 minutes by car from the Daesin IC on the 2nd Yeongdong Expressway, 5 minutes from Wondeok Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and within an hour’s access to Seoul. Additionally, the opening of the Songpa-Hanam-Yangpyeong Expressway in 2023 and the 2nd Outer Ring Road in 2022 will dramatically reduce the physical travel time between Seoul and Yangpyeong.

Access to daily convenience facilities is also easy. Nearby are Yangpyeong Market (held every 5 days), Yeoju Bo Culture Center, Silleuksa Temple, Hwanghaksan Arboretum, Yangpyeong Hospital (emergency room), National Traffic Rehabilitation Hospital (general medical services available), Yeoju Provincial Hospital, large discount stores (Lotte Mart, E-Mart, Hanaro Mart), and Yeoju Premium Outlets.

According to a sales representative, “As concepts like ‘well-being,’ emphasizing quality of life, and ‘healing’ have deeply permeated our lives, hanok surrounded by nature is gaining popularity. While some purchase for actual residence, investors also visit with the intention to buy as an investment.”

Visitors to the ‘Yangpyeong Hanok Village’ site can tour model houses and consult on preferred plot sizes, views, construction budgets, and move-in schedules.
