Up to 3 Million Support for Urban Regeneration Project in Gonghang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul

Applications Open Until August 17 for Resident Groups of 3 or More... Up to 1 to 3 Million KRW Support per Project

Up to 3 Million Support for Urban Regeneration Project in Gonghang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is promoting the ‘Gonghang-dong Urban Regeneration Resident Contest Project,’ which supports local residents to directly propose and implement ideas for the Gonghang-dong urban regeneration project.

The Gonghang-dong urban regeneration activation area covers 149,976㎡ around 60-28 Gonghang-dong, Gangseo-gu. This area has been subject to various restrictions such as development and height limits due to its proximity to Gimpo International Airport and military bases.

Last November, the area was selected as a ‘2019 Second Half Seoul Urban Regeneration Activation Area (Neighborhood Regeneration General Type)’ and will receive a total project budget of 10 billion KRW over five years until 2024, enabling various urban regeneration projects to be implemented.

As part of this urban regeneration project, the district is promoting the Gonghang-dong urban regeneration contest project led by local residents.

This contest project is conducted in two types: ‘Making Neighbors,’ which can activate the community, and ‘Project Discovery,’ which identifies and concretizes local issues. Resident groups of three or more who are willing to engage in community activities can apply. However, at least one of the three members must be a resident of the Gonghang-dong urban regeneration area or a local living area who works or attends school in the region.

For each project type, ‘Making Neighbors’ will be supported up to 1 million KRW, and ‘Project Discovery’ up to 3 million KRW. In the case of ‘Project Discovery,’ applicants must secure at least 10% of the total project cost as self-funding.

Residents wishing to participate in the contest should prepare the project application form, project plan, and an introduction of the group or organization, and visit the Gonghang-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center (32-1 Songjeong-ro, Gangseo-gu, 3rd floor, Room 301) by 6 p.m. on the 17th to apply.

More detailed information can be found on the ‘Gangseo-gu Office website - News Plaza - Legislation, Notices, Announcements,’ where necessary forms can also be downloaded.

The Gonghang-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center will review the suitability of the project applications through a selection committee and finalize the projects. The district will hold a local subsidy review committee to confirm the support amount and individually notify the selected applicants on August 28.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “Since this contest project is one in which residents participate as the main agents, we expect various ideas and projects to be discovered. We will actively reflect residents’ opinions and promote urban regeneration projects that utilize the characteristics of the region.”

The district plans to expand resident contest projects in 2021, such as activating resident shared-use spaces, if community groups within the Gonghang-dong urban regeneration activation area are revitalized and local issues are derived through this contest project.
