Route Change of 'Gwangjin01 Village Bus' Passing Gwangjin Information Library... All 11 Gates Including 5 Yukgapmun in Gwangjin-gu Closed After 9 Years... 1,882 Staff on 24-Hour Emergency Duty Since the 1st
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has completely restricted the area in front of Gwangjin Information Library due to the expected flooding of the Han River caused by continuous heavy rain and increased discharge from Paldang Dam.
The district blocked traffic from 11 a.m. on the 6th in the section from Gwangjang-dong 135-1 to Gwangjang-dong 102 in front of Gwangjin Information Library to prevent flood damage.
This restriction will continue until the Han River water level decreases. As of 9 a.m. on the 6th, the discharge from Paldang Dam is 18,392 tons per second.
For residents' safety, the district temporarily changed the route of the Gwangjin 01 village bus passing by Gwangjin Information Library. The original route ‘Information Library ~ Hangang Hotel Entrance ~ Gwangnaru Hyundai A’ temporarily closed the stops at Information Library and Hangang Hotel Entrance, changing the route to ‘Walkerhill A Front ~ Gwangnaru Hyundai A’.
Additionally, about 30 vehicles parked in the resident-priority parking zone in front of Gwangjin Information Library were relocated, and sandbags were installed at four entrances to the Han River bicycle path in front of the library.
Earlier, to prevent flooding risks at Ttukseom Hangang Citizens' Park, the district closed all 11 gates at five Yukgapmun locations in Gwangjin-gu from 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd.
This closure of Yukgapmun gates is the fifth since 1999 and the first in nine years since July 27, 2011.
Also, since the heavy rain began on the 1st, a 24-hour Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has been operating, with a total of 1,882 personnel deployed for emergency duty so far.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Due to the continuous heavy rain over several days, the Han River water level has risen, and our district adjacent to the river cannot overlook flood damage. We will prioritize the safety and lives of residents, work diligently to minimize damage, and ensure swift response in dangerous situations.”
He added, “Residents are also asked to refrain from entering the Han River area as the discharge from Paldang Dam may increase further and to follow safety guidelines during heavy rain.”
