September 22-26: Residents Participate in Programs and Exhibit Their Creations... Operation of Children's Peace Class, Children's Soccer Class, and Residents' Peace Class
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) will operate various peace and unification education programs for residents in September.
The district has prepared beneficial and substantial resident-centered programs such as art exhibitions, experiential activities, and humanities lectures to enhance the value of peace and the necessity of inter-Korean exchange.
The programs include ▲Children's Peace Class (Children Imagining Peace) ▲Children's Soccer Class (Learning Peace through Soccer) ▲Resident Peace Class (Embracing Peace in Dobong) ▲Exhibition Experience (From War Space to Peace Space).
In particular, the programs will be operated as resident participatory programs utilizing the Peace Culture Bunker space, reflecting historical and regional characteristics.
The Children's Peace Class is for local elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 and will be held three times in total (every Saturday) from September 12 to 26. It will take place in the Dobong Peace Culture Bunker seminar room and exhibition hall.
The Children's Soccer Class is also for local elementary school students in grades 4 to 6. It will be held four times in total (every Saturday) from September 5 to 26 at the Dobong Changgol Sports Ground.
Additionally, the Resident Peace Class for local residents will be held three times in total (every Wednesday) from September 9 to 23 in the Dobong Peace Culture Bunker seminar room and exhibition hall.
Applications can be made by contacting the Labor-Management Exchange Cooperation Team at Dobong-gu Office by August 21.
The education will be conducted strictly following COVID-19 guidelines such as social distancing, mask-wearing, and temperature checks.
Furthermore, an exhibition of works directly created by residents participating in the programs will be held. The works will be displayed for five days from 1 p.m. on September 22 to 1 p.m. on September 26 in the Peace Culture Bunker exhibition hall.
During the exhibition period, local residents can see actual works by children from the North. Visitors will also participate in decorating the exhibition space with postcards used by residents from both Koreas, Post-its, a Korean Peninsula decorated with flowers, and a peace tree created together.
Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “I hope this will be an opportunity for our residents to form a consensus on peace and unification through various hands-on activities,” and added, “We will continue to promote diverse programs that can help cultivate residents' sensitivity to peace.”
