[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] On the 6th (local time), the U.S. Department of State downgraded its Level 4 travel ban advisory for U.S. citizens overseas, which was issued due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), to Level 3, advising travelers to reconsider travel. However, the travel ban advisory for China was maintained.

In a press release announced that day, the Department of State stated that, in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it would lift the travel ban advisory that had been in effect for all countries worldwide since March 19.

The Department of State noted that as the health situation has improved in some countries, it has shifted to individual travel advisories for each country, but still urged travelers to exercise special caution when traveling abroad.

Accordingly, the Department of State downgraded the travel advisory to Level 3 for most European countries, including France, Spain, Italy, and Austria. South Korea was also subject to a Level 3 travel advisory.

For Russia and India, where COVID-19 infections are currently spreading, a Level 4 travel ban advisory was applied. Although China has successfully controlled infections, the travel ban advisory remains in effect. In contrast, Brazil, which has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world after the United States, was only placed under a Level 2 advisory, creating a stark contrast.
