[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Iksan City, Jeonbuk, welcomes visitors with the ‘8 Nights’ cultural heritage experience, allowing them to fully enjoy Mireuksaji and the millennium breath-filled Baekje Royal Palace on summer nights.

According to the city on the 6th, from the 7th to the 9th, the ‘2020 Iksan Cultural Heritage Night Tour’ will be held at Baekje Royal Palace (Wanggung-ri site) under eight themes: Night View (夜景), Night Road (夜路), Night History (夜史), Night Painting (夜畵), Night Setup (夜設), Night Food (夜食), Night Market (夜市), and Night Stay (夜宿).

This night tour includes ‘Tower Walking with a Millennium Wish,’ where visitors walk around the Wanggung-ri Five-story Stone Pagoda making wishes, and the ‘Baekje Royal Palace Moonlight Prayer,’ a wish lantern release event, to help visitors intimately experience the world heritage and cultural assets.

Additionally, there is the ‘Night Starry Sky Journey,’ where visitors observe constellations in the night sky in front of the Baekje garden; ‘Byeolgung Dalgung Sand Story,’ a sand art performance featuring Baekje stories that visitors can enjoy and participate in; and ‘Heritage Hologram,’ a cultural heritage experience through a hologram experience box.

The Cultural Heritage Night Tour is a comprehensive cultural and artistic event held at Baekje Royal Palace (Wanggung-ri site) and over ten other cultural assets, offering various experiences, performances, and nightscapes. Last year, it was recognized for its value by being selected as an excellent night tour by the Cultural Heritage Administration.

In response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, with many local events being canceled, the city has carefully prepared thorough quarantine measures to hold the Cultural Heritage Night Tour.

First, to comply with government quarantine guidelines, the event venue will have five restricted entrances with quarantine stations installed. Only visitors who pass temperature checks, submit QR codes or sign-in sheets, pass through disinfectant gates, and wear health status confirmation bracelets will be allowed entry.

Along with this, the city has significantly expanded advance reservations and reduced food offerings to prevent crowding in advance. During the event, professional disinfection companies will continuously disinfect various parts of the venue.

Mayor Jeong Heon-yul stated, “We plan to focus on alleviating citizens’ anxiety through thorough pre-preparations against COVID-19,” adding, “We will lead a new form of safe tourism suitable for the post-COVID-19 era by conducting family tourism in wide outdoor spaces where citizens exhausted by COVID-19 can heal.”

Meanwhile, the city plans to continue operating some of the landscape sculptures even after the night tour ends to encourage citizens to spend their summer vacations locally. However, some experiences and performances may be partially reduced or canceled in case of rain on the event day.
