Rapid Increase in Learners Due to COVID-19
Trend of Offline Education Shifting to E-Learning
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] Hunet announced on the 6th that the cumulative number of learners in the first half of this year reached 2.6 million, an increase of 187% compared to the same period last year.
This increase in cumulative learners was influenced by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). As the untact culture took hold due to COVID-19, there was a surge of interest in online education, which allows for self-development remotely.
Additionally, companies implementing remote work and conducting large-scale online employee training was another major factor. In particular, in June of this year, the monthly number of learners using Hunet's educational content surpassed 650,000, setting a new record for the highest monthly number ever.
Last year, there were only two requests for online live training from companies to Hunet, but this year, more than 70 live training sessions were conducted in the first half alone, according to the company. Various online live trainings were held, including ▲ summer new product practical training for franchise stores of a bakery company ▲ insurance new product training for nationwide insurance agents of an insurance company ▲ regular training for clinical staff at a university hospital.
Cho Youngtak, CEO of Hunet, said, "Companies that had postponed education due to COVID-19 are converting offline education to online, so the number of learners is expected to continue increasing in the second half of the year," adding, "Traditional offline trainings such as new employee training and promotion training are shifting to e-learning due to COVID-19, so attention should be paid to the growth of untact education methods."
