National Mokpo University Holds Inaugural Ceremony of the 'Medical School Attraction Promotion Committee'

53 Recruitment Committee Members Appointed Including Seo Nam-gwon National Assembly Member and Park Woo-ryang, Shinan County Governor

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 6th that it successfully held the launching ceremony of the 'Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction Promotion Committee' at 10:30 a.m. on the 5th at the 70th Anniversary Hall Cheonggang Academia Hall.

At the event, Mokpo Mayor Kim Jong-sik and Mokpo National University President Park Min-seo, along with Kim Won-yi, a member of the National Assembly who serves as co-chairman of the 'Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction Promotion Committee,' National Assembly members Seo Sam-seok, Yoon Jae-gap, former Justice Party floor leader Yoon So-ha, and Park Woo-ryang, Shinan County Governor, among 53 others, were appointed as committee members.

Amid the recent COVID-19 crisis, the importance of public healthcare in local areas has increased, and this event demonstrated a united front with the single goal of establishing a medical school in the Jeonnam region, which is in urgent need of medical personnel.

Co-chairman Kim Jong-sik stated, “The establishment of Mokpo National University Medical School should naturally be realized when comprehensively considering the historical background and objective quantitative indicators that have been prepared so far.”

Co-chairman Kim Won-yi added, “We will persuade central government agencies such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Education, the Blue House, and the central party about the urgency, desperation, necessity, and public nature of attracting Mokpo National University Medical School, and we will do our best to fulfill the 30-year aspiration.”

The event included a report on the progress of efforts to establish the medical school over the past 30 years since 1990, greetings from the co-chairmen, congratulatory speeches, the reading of a resolution by Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly members Lee Hyuk-je and Lee Hye-ja, and a performance praying for the success of the medical school attraction, gathering the medical school attraction capabilities of nine local governments.

Mokpo National University President Park Min-seo said, “The attraction of Mokpo National University Medical School cannot be achieved by the university alone, so we promise to actively cooperate with local residents centered on the newly launched Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction Promotion Committee and devote all efforts to attracting the medical school.”

Going forward, the Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction Promotion Committee plans to actively cooperate with nine local governments in the southwestern region and vigorously carry out a one million signature campaign along with the Blue House national petition movement. They also plan to form an expert advisory group consisting of professors from related departments to do their best in establishing strategies for attracting the medical school.
